Photovoltaic energy can be utilized thru several methods. The most common approach is through a grid tie system where an additional utility power meter is installed in conjunction with solar panels and an inverter.
The panels are connected directly to the structure panel thru the inverter which inverts the solar generated dc voltage to alternating current which can be used by structure appliances or, if not used, stored in our national utility grid.
This method is typically used because no energy is wasted as would be the case with a stand alone system which utilizes site storage battery banks which are not as efficient . However grid tie systems shut down if utility power is not available and in an emergency outage scenario, grid tie systems serve no purpose. There are several factors which would influence what type system is best for each individual scenario. We Can Help!
