Generator specifications can be somewhat confusing unless you have a good understanding of electricity and the different characteristics of different type loads. Additionally altitude; operating temperatures of the unit, which is determined by ambient temperatures, proper ventilation, proper fuel mixtures, and the duration of load percentages attached to the system all contribute to the proper size unit you must use. Proper load analysis, installation, and correct fuel pressures all play critical roles for experiencing a successful generator event. Put our experience and expertise to work for you! LONGEVITY of a system can be greatly affected by miscalculations.
Listed below are specifications for units typically installed for residential applications. E&W offers the sale and installation of units 13 KW and up. Air cooled products typically should only be used for necessity type items, gas furnaces, refrigeration, sump pumps, well pumps, hot water heaters, some air conditioning systems (would be very careful here), etc. The air cooled product E&W represents utilizes a 992cc, 1 litre, engine which is outstanding if installed and maintained properly. For larger loads and better longevity we can offer liquid cooled products, starting with the 20, 25, and 30 units, (elite) which utilize a 1.6, 4 cylinder, liquid cooled engine, used mostly for entire structure applications using gas as the heating source, also dependent on a correct load calculation per NEC 220. The largest available unit in the elite line is the 45 KW, utilizing a 2.4, 4 cylinder, liquid cooled engine, which will do most entire structure applications even if electricity is used for the heating source, also dependent on a correct load calculation per NEC 220. Available under the quietsource line are the 18 and 25 KW systems which provide the same amount of electricity as the Elite units, however, these units utilize a 1.6 litre engine in the 18 KW and a 2.4 litre engine in the 25 KW, both work at a lower rpm rate which decreases fuel consumption and can add to longevity. The largest available units and real horses are the 35 and 45 KW quietsource models which both utilize a 4.2 litre, 6 cylinder engine. These units are the best of the best, extremely quiet, extremely effiecient, and very durable.
There are several different scenerios for electrical systems and really there is no way to guess at the correct system. There is no way per this site to cover all the different scenerios and uses of energy management equipment for getting the most for less. Contact Michael Williams, sales and service manager at E&W, at ncgenerators@earthlink.net. ADDITIONALLY be advised per NEC 2008 even optional stand by systems which utilize automatic switching mechanisms must be large enough to cover every load attached to the transfer switch. Be careful!
